    Is there a minimum time from initial on duty status that you have to be on duty before you take the 2hours off duty?

    • @FleetNavSystems
      @FleetNavSystems 2 года назад

      NOTE: The answer below is not intended as legal advice. Contact your local FMCSA field office or service center for answers on how HOS rules work: www.fmcsa.dot.gov/mission/field-offices Hey, @AP R, Great question! I do not believe that there is a minimum time from initial ON-duty status required before taking the 2 hours off for your split. At least, I've consulted my team here and we have not come across this as an issue before. I hope this helps; although I would certainly recommend double checking on this with your local FMCSA field office or service center, just to be sure. Alternatively, you may find reaching out to the Indiana State Police - Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division to be a good resource: facebook.com/ISPCVED (We livestreamed with Trooper Hoover from the ISPCVED a few times on the channel to ask him a bunch of questions about ELD and HOS; here's a link to the first of our three interviews we've done with him so far: ruclips.net/video/VKgtmk4FlV8/видео.html) All the Best, Joy @ Fleet Nav Systems

      @@FleetNavSystems oh no, I know there’s not a minimum time with fmcsa. But I had logged on duty for an hour, took a 2 hour off duty, drove and worked the rest of my time expecting to only have the 8 hour sb left. Woke up, would not give me any time back until 10 hours sb. @FleetNavSystems 2 года назад

      @@apr6337 - So sorry about that; did not realize that is what you were asking. As far as I know, the Geotab solution should mirror the FMCSA rule exactly. Unfortunately, without seeing your specific logs it is difficult for me to provide you with an accurate answer. Here a couple of things I can guess at that may help you: - Did you finish your 8 hours in SB status the whole time? If even in OFF or PC, this will not count toward your 8 hours, which would explain the need to take a full 10. - Did your workday hours get paused when you took the 2-hour part of the split? Really, what I'm looking for here is if you can verify that you are, indeed, on a split-SB ruleset. Your ruleset does need to specifically say "with split sleeper" for this to work. I have another theory on this, but am going to do some research before mentioning it. If you get your Geotab service through Fleet Nav Systems, you can definitely call us and we can help you get to the bottom of it asap. If not, I would recommend that you have your admin reach out to your reseller or Geotab Support (whichever is your usual support channel) to see if they can look at your logs specifically to see what happened there. (If your reseller or Geotab Support can't help you, you may want to have your admin reach out to us at sales@fleetnavsystems.com to see about what it would take to have your service transferred to us, as we're pretty well-equipped to handle these sorts of things.) Can't find the VERIFY button from PC or with my mobile?

    • @FleetNavSystems

      Hey Andre, The way to find "Verify" is to go to the "HOS" button on the bottom of the screen, click "Logs" in the upper-right (should be just below your name), and then you should see the option to verify just above and to the right of your RODS graph. If that isn't working, I'd check to make sure you're logging into Geotab Drive instead of MyGeotab (because you can most likely log into either with your credentials). • @FleetNavSystems
      @FleetNavSystems 2 года назад

      Hey @MzBeTTyBooP, thanks for watching the livestream! Using PC will mess up the split if you use it during the longer part of your split. So, it shouldn't mess up your time for the 2-hour (or 3-hour) break, but it would interfere with your split if you used it during your 8-hour (or 7-hour) part of the break. • @FleetNavSystems
      @FleetNavSystems 3 года назад

      Hey there, Emerson, good question! If the Driving status was recorded automatically by the ELD, you can't actually make an edit to it; this is because of the ELD mandate specifies how automatically-recorded Drive logs are managed. If it was supposed to be in an exemption status (e.g. Yard Move or Personal Conveyance), you could always annotate to explain. If this was an error (like in the case where it should have been YM or PC), you could have an admin reset your timers for you after you annotated the log. Here's a video on what an admin would need to do to fix your timers: ruclips.net/video/EhylrO9xXlY/видео.html Hope this helps! :) Best, Joy @ Fleet Nav Systems P.S. Please note that this isn't legal advice; it's just my best understanding of how these rules work. If the malfunction is cleared by driver and then again shows up after some time, because that malfunction was not actually fixed. What is recommended to do in that case? 4. Mine has the split sleeper rule but when it hits 8 hours of sb the drive time still is 0 hours???

    • @FleetNavSystems
      @FleetNavSystems 3 года назад

      Hey, Corey! I can't tell for sure without looking at your logs (if you're a Fleet Nav customer, give us a call and I'll do just that for you), but here are some things to check to see what may be going on: 1) check to make sure that your ruleset specifies the "with split sleeper" option, 2) make sure that the 8 hours of SB time is actually in the "SB" status and not in "OFF" or "PC" or anything, and 3) make sure that you're not out of your duty-cycle time. And, of course, this only works on Geotab ELD devices. Finally, if all of these things look correct, I would recommend that you reach out to Geotab Support or your Geotab reseller (whichever is your Support channel) to have someone look at your specific logs to see if they can help you find out what the problem is. Here's a link with some more info that may help you or your admin with this particular part: www.geotab.com/blog/fmcsa-final-rule/ Hope this helps! :) Best, Joy @ Fleet Nav Systems P.S. Thanks for watching our videos and commenting here! Your comments help me make this stuff better for you guys.

      @@FleetNavSystems we got it working it was not set to split sleeper by default. I think the amount of rules sets that is in the geotab system, well, it's annoying to be honest, but that's what we figured out what it was. We've got split sleeper now working.

      Hey,@@djwilson48625! Thanks for this feedback. I'll pass it along to Geotab so that they can be aware that drivers and admins find this long set of rules annoying. It's possible that they could take that feedback and change this up in the future. Feature requests usually take a while if Geotab decides to implement them, but at least know that you're being heard and I'll do my best to see if they can make this more user-friendly. I totally agree that it's difficult to work with all those when most companies only need one or two.

    Have you done the split sleeper video yet? Today is September 29th, I took a break in sleeper and the 14 hour did not stop counting down. I am now 4 and 1/2 hours into my break and it is continuing to count down. I was under the understanding that taking a break from 2 to 3 hours would stop the 14 hour clock period at least that's how it's explained every place on the planet.. Also we have a few short haul drivers in our fleet, do we need to have that short haul button? And if so how does that get implemented? Currently we do not require our drivers to use the ELD that are on short haul.

      Hey again, Dj! :) I do not have that out; only some discussions with Trooper Hoover that you found already. For the short haul question and more information on the split-sleeper, I would recommend reaching out to your local DOT office and/or your Geotab Support channel (e.g. your reseller or Geotab Support if your reseller doesn't actually provide support directly). I can explain how things work in Geotab Drive here, but the compliance part of it really ought to be taken up with the DOT to ensure that the answer you get is accurate. Wouldn't want to mislead you on that. Good luck, and if you're a Fleet Nav customer, please reach out to us directly on our Support line so we can get you a better answer. Best, Joy @ Fleet Nav Systems

      Well the problem we've discovered is that there's about 15,000 different rule sets, which is kind of obnoxious, but the problem is we had to go in and change all of our drivers to the rule sets that included the split sleeper. That's very annoying and a hell of a task for a large fleet. So we've got it working now but it was not working by default.

      @@djwilson48625 Next time you can use the bulk-edit feature to update all your drivers at once: ruclips.net/video/tcJrR_A4msk/видео.html Keep in mind, something that Geotab hasn't really talked about much at all is that any breaks of 2+ hours in OFF, SB, or PC time will count towards that split SB provision. So, if your drivers stop and are OFF for longer than 2+ hours in a day and *shouldn't* have that time counted towards split SB, they'll need to switch back to their original ruleset for the time being and then be switched back to the new "with sleeper" ruleset when they want to use split SB. It's not very user-friendly right now, but they're working on ways to make that better coming soon. Hope this helps. :) Best, Joy @ Fleet Nav Systems

    You don't have to enter the DB under options. This will populate automatically if the driver is in the DB.

    • @FleetNavSystems
      @FleetNavSystems 3 года назад

      Thanks, David! You're right: usually this should be saved and populate automatically. However, in some cases where drivers drive for different companies on a regular basis, or if they clear their app cache, this may be deleted and need to be re-entered. I appreciate your taking the time to leave the comment here; this does help clarify something I left out of that video! 😎

    FOLLOW-UP ON QUESTION: Trooper Hoover answered Christina's question and said that any charges would be up to a local prosecutor.

  • @robertdaniul4390
    @robertdaniul4390 3 года назад

    My qustion for Jake is this can we customize the software for the livestock haulers because we do run under slightly different HOS rules than just a Normal Freight hauler does? For example the Livestock haulers do not need to do a 30 min break at all. But they do run under the normal rules otherwise.

    • @FleetNavSystems
      @FleetNavSystems 3 года назад

      Thanks for the question, Robert! So, in this case, you'd probably be under a different ruleset than the typical 60-hour/7-day or 7-hour/8-day one. Geotab offers several different rulesets, so it's possible they have this one to fit your needs. The other option they have is a "No ruleset" setting where you can manage your time on your own (that is, the timers aren't counting down to things like breaks). So, the Geotab ELD can certainly work for this sort of an application; just how you go about implementing what you need would depend on the ruleset you're required to run on (i.e. one that already exists or not). Hope this helps! :)

I imagine you're looking for something a tad more specific, so if you happen to get this today and Trooper Hoover is able to come on our show (it's a little up-in-the-air right now), please join us.
